Volunteer Activities

I believe I have accumulated experiences worth passing on.
I look forward to a bright future unfolding together with you all.

Activities at YMCA

#CommunityContribution #InternationalExchange

I have been a member of the YMCA, an international youth organization, for over 10 years starting at age 13. I focused particularly on community exchange, participating in various events and programs. During junior and senior high school, I contributed to community development through cleaning and fundraising activities in Kyoto City. After entering university, I served as a ski camp program leader, conducting ski instruction and managing recreation for elementary to high school students. By finding and praising even small achievements, I tried to ensure the children could engage positively. I believe this environment, where we acknowledged and elevated each other, raised me to become someone who can think and act proactively. I believe that because there are diverse elements such as nationality, race, gender, and age, there are diverse perspectives, leading to unexpected discoveries and collaborations.

Founding a Medical Supply Support Group

#ReliefSupplies

I established a volunteer group to match medical institutions and welfare facilities with people wishing to donate, supporting the aid process. Under the state of emergency in March 2020, hospitals in Kyoto City were consuming 300 disposable masks a day, and support could not keep up. Together with 56 classmates, I visited facilities in the city to gather raw information from the field and strengthened our outreach through Facebook and Teams. Furthermore, we published methods for making masks and disposable gowns and collaborated with city council members to lend out sewing machines at civic centers. As a result, we were able to act as agents for about 200 people who felt frustrated not knowing how to help, and delivered supplies to 7 organizations within the short period of 3 months.

Doshisha University, Faculty of Science and Engineering

#NAOqi #ComputerAssistedLanguageLearning

I developed a system where learners can learn English expressions by interacting with two robots. Experiments manipulating questions and model answers were conducted with native Japanese speakers, analyzing the learners' voice responses and eye movements. I created 30 scenarios of about 10 minutes each to realize efficient learning. Received the Student Encouragement Award from the Information Processing Society of Japan.

#DataScience #BehavioralChange

Participated in an industry-academia collaborative project aiming to improve productivity in telework environments during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was in charge of everything from survey analysis to the development of an app to encourage behavioral change, tackling new challenges corresponding to lifestyle changes.

Doshisha University Graduate School of Business

#GlobalBusinessManagement #Coaching

While studying as an undergraduate, I enrolled as a research student at the graduate school to learn management and organizational operations, conducting research on organizational reform of the Self-Defense Forces.
Additionally, aiming to promote mutual learning through academics, I established a community for coaching practice and worked with members. Under the guidance of experts, we gathered over 180 members and operated for two years (Doshisha Coaching Lab).
As part of our activities, we conducted a career survey for third-year undergraduates. The results showed that over 70% of students had not envisioned their career plans. Feeling a sense of crisis, I wondered if I could create opportunities for both students and working professionals to gain new perspectives, and organized events inviting corporate executives to dialogue with students.

Global Leader Development Program

#ResourceManagement #PublicPolicy

Focusing on the increase in power demand accompanying the expansion of AI usage, I researched environmental and energy policies. I visited European energy facilities and government agencies to investigate initiatives and challenges in each region. I also proposed my own plan to achieve sustainability by 2050.

Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo

#AI #KnowledgeTracing

I developed a machine learning model to improve learning efficiency and predict forgetting timing for elementary and junior high school students using tablet materials specialized in fostering basic academic skills. The model predicts with high accuracy when a student is likely to forget Kanji, English words, or calculations, and assigns homework before they forget. This achieved an optimal review schedule utilizing student-specific characteristics.

Comments

Q: Was your name the inspiration for your path?

My interest in healthcare was sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic I experienced at age 20. I continued volunteer activities for 10 years from junior high through university graduation, and founded a group to match medical supply donors with organizations in need. The saying "Nomen est omen" (The name is a sign) fits perfectly.

Q: What does health mean to you?

Being able to envision how to live your life and interact with things. The WHO definition of physical, mental, and social "well-being" is abstract, but what we desire remains unchanged in any era.

Q: How would you spend 1 million yen?

I would invite the people who have supported me, cook delicious food, and share time eating together. I have a sweet tooth and love fruit and chocolate. I would probably save the rest.
